The opportunity:

Under direct supervision assists in formulating and defining system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding combined with a basic understanding of applicable business systems and industry requirements.

Includes analysis of business and user needs, documenting requirements, and revising existing system logic difficulties as necessary under direction of an experienced Business Systems Analyst. Competent to consider most business implications of the application of technology to the current business environment.

What you will do:

  • Plans and works on assignments of limited scope, minimal complexity and short duration
  • Participates in the investigation and resolution of simple and straightforward problems using existing guidelines and documented processes
  • Translates high level business requirements into functional specifications for input into application activities
  • Interacts with subject matter experts, application development, implementation support and production support staff to help to assist with the definition of functional specifications that meet users requirements and are technically appropriate
  • Communicates with the Project Manager and will assist with various client management activities
  • Create and maintain BSA deliverables as mandated in SDLC
  • Provide support for project documentation as per SDLC
  • Assists in analysis and reporting of testing defects when requested
  • Provide implementation and post implementation support
  • Manages one or more assignments concurrently
  • Assists with the preparation of client presentations concerning project scope, timeline, activities, issues, and progress as required
  • Provide input for post-implementation review document and implement corrective procedures


What you need to have to succeed:

  • University or college degree in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in developing requirements for software development or systems integration projects
  • Minimum 2 years experience with the project life cycle (SDLC) and associated analytical techniques
  • Knowledge of Business Systems Analysis techniques, methodologies and approaches
  • Working knowledge of standardized software development methodology (ie. Agile)
  • Understanding of the concepts of project management methodologies (ie. Waterfall and Agile)
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office tools

Nice to have:

  • Understanding of technologies and business practices related to payments and financial services (emphasis on cheque payments), customer communication services (customer statements), insurance, fraud analytics, large data management and mining, web services, and electronic archiving
  • Awareness of modern technology concepts attached to Digital Transformation, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain, robotic process automation, big data analytics, identity management, responsive design, etc.
  • Awareness of Design Thinking methodologies and techniques, including customer interviews, persona definition, customer journey mapping, inspiration research, etc.
  • Awareness of User Experience and User Interface Design.
