The opportunity:

As the apex of the developer role, the Principal Developer will be the authority for decisions relating to our technology frameworks, coding standards and practices. Expected to be a thought leader in the approach to software development, solving complex technical challenges and driving meaningful change within the department to realize continuous improvement and delivery capability.

What you will do:

The Principal Developer will be the senior most developer within the team and have a broad scope of overseeing all development activities, with the purpose of ensuring adherence to best practices & standards and delivering code based on those standards to provide examples of best in class deliverables.

  • Accountable for development deliverables including software code, build scripts, templates & patterns
  • Define Standard Patterns, and deploy within the organization
  • Drive significant technology initiatives across all aspects of the development (design -> deploy)
  • Write and review technical specifications

Utilize the design to develop a working technical solution/software application within established timelines, incorporating modern technologies, programming languages, development tools and industry best practices, and test code to ensure the solution is reliable, and meets Symcor security standards as well as business and client requirements.

  • Use a variety of programming languages and development tools to build, test, implement, and support the development of software applications.
  • Define patterns and templates for the development teams.
  • Investigate and test out new technologies, code libraries and third-party products.
  • Write high-quality, re-usable code applying industry standard object-oriented programming best practices.

Champion the creation of technology standards and frameworks and achieve adhere to these standards and frameworks

Provide mentorship to all architects across Symcor as required, in order to increase organizational strength and cohesiveness across Symcor architecture disciplines, knowledge of industry and Symcor best practices, and overall organizational effectiveness.

What you need to have to succeed:

  • 5+ Years of hands-on experience with cloud technologies
  • 8+ Years of experience implementing DevOps, supporting Continuous Deployment and Integration
  • 5+  Years of front-end development experience, knowledge of JavaScript modern frameworks and client side performance optimization
  • Strong pair programming or mob programming skills, both as a mechanism for producing better code, and for teaching skills
  • Experience with data pipelines, ETL, streaming data engines, and related technologies
  • The ability to balance desire to ship code quickly to our customers with the responsibility of making good technical decisions
  • Familiarity with continuous integration processes
  • Several years’ experience in technical leadership combined with a track record of software development delivery
  • Degree in Computer Science or related technical degree or equivalent experience
  • Ability to work in a fast changing, highly dynamic environment
